I’ve been see these candle holders everywhere. But no matter what I saw I was mind blown how much they cost. It was insane! So like I say all the time. Lets make it cheaper! lol

Step 1:
Select wood! I had a scrap piece that was about 36” long and 3” square. I wanted to sand it until it was perfectly smooth so I knew where I was going to cut my holes. I did 120g, 180g, and 220g. Doing this helps the grain of the wood to become softer and prevent splintering.
Step 2 & 3:
Now is the time to add the holes. I drew a center line across the whole piece. Then using my speed square I marked ever 2 inches creating an + every 2 inches on center. The center point is where you would put the spade bit to drill the holes for the candles. Once you have it marked then go through with your drill to create each hole. I chose to go 1/2″ down into the wood. Which gave me the perfect depth. I then went lightly over the top to take off the pencil marks.
Step 4:
Now is time to stain. With this piece a wood conditioner was not necessary. So I just applied the Hickory stain to the wood using paper towels. Make sure to wear gloves. It will stain and possibly irritate the skin.

There you have it! I also added a Polycrylic finish in matte to make sure it was sealed perfectly. I’m so in love with it. I didn’t want a rustic one. I was hoping for one that was more of one you would find at Pottery Barn. An we have done just that!
