Today I am partnering with National Hardware to create Barndoors! I wanted something that was modern in color and simplicity, but a touch of vintage traditional.

STEP 1:
I removed the doors. After receiving the hardware in the mail I went to work. Per the instructions and my door opening dimensions. I needed 86″ Tall x 36″ W x 1″ D. I went to the hardware store and got 1/2″ plywood Since with trim we will double up the 1/2″ Depth. I had a hardware store cut them down for me to make good time on this build.

STEP 2:
I cut the remaining plywood to size. Creating a butt joint. As shown below. I nailed and glued them down. Aligning the edges. Filled nail holes with wood filler. Allowed to completely dry!
Pro Tip: Use leftover sawdust mixed with glue, creating a paste to fill in holes. (If you cut these yourself, you will have some to use.)

STEP 3 & 4:
Now that everything is dry. Now we prime any primer will work. Just make sure it’s compatible with your paint! Allow to dry. It’s time to paint. Apply as many coats as needed. Again, allow it to fully dry.

STEP 5:
While we wait for those to dry, it’s time to add the 1×6 primed pine board. I bought this at 72″ (recommended length per instructions.). I secured the header into the studs. Two 2″ screws per stud. Fill holes, sand, and paint.

STEP 7 & 8:
Add track according to instructions. I recommend getting another person to help you as you install the track.
Once that was installed, I then took the doors into the room I am planning on installing. I added the hardware using a National Hardwares guide & install instructions.

STEP 9:
Wallpaper time! This wallpaper simply just needs to be soaked for 30 seconds. Bring to the door and align to the side. Allow for a little overhang that we will cut off once positioned where we want it. Once in place cut off excess with a box cutter or exacto knife. Allow to dry for the recommended time. About 24 hours.

STEP 10:
Now that everything is dry, we paint. I put two coats on the wallpaper and touched up on the door. You can totally add a top coat, but the paint I used doesn’t require it.

STEP 11:
Hang up the door on track. Now stand back and admire how stunning these barn doors are! Special thanks to National Hardware for sponsoring this project!
Note: with our HVAC system our air supply is located in our room and closest. To so account for that we the supply air.
